The thought of freedom has always intrigued me, especially when it comes to employment. Doing the same thing, day in and day out, answering to senior management and fighting traffic, ahh no thanks! And all this for a paycheck and a job that leaves you depleted, unhappy and miserable.
As a Creative Writing graduate, I always knew I wanted to be a writer. Sure I didn’t always have a crystal-clear image of what that looked like, I only knew I wanted to write because of the creativity and freedom that was the very ‘backbone’ of the profession.
Months after graduation and while yes, I had fulfilled the promise I’d made to myself of being a writer, the only problem was it was more or less my ‘side hustle.’
Freedom from The Daily Grind
In those years, I was trapped in the ‘daily grind’, working as both a marketing executive and a content writer. While I hadn’t ‘let my dream die,’ I did however struggle being a fulltime employee. So, I completely changed gears and became a teacher, all the while ‘moonlighting’ as a freelance copywriter.
It wasn’t until 2019, at the suggestion of a friend, that I decided to re-evaluate my career with this one very simple question,
What makes you happy?
The answer quite literally rolled off my tongue with ease,
Freedom and writing.
So, with my friend’s guidance and suggestion, I decided to enroll in a course that would change my perspective on making money, Marie Forleo’s B-School. If you want to learn more and are excited at the thought of becoming your own boss I highly suggest you click here!
There’s Room for Everybody!
B-School ignited a fire inside of me that I didn’t know was there. It made me realize two very important things:
- You only live once, so why not die doing what you love
- There’s room for everybody in the world of entrepreneurship
Truthfully, the biggest hurdle to my success was, well, me. Prior to enrolling in this course I thought,
‘Oh there’s no point in trying to ‘sell’ myself as a writer, there are so many other people out there who have the know-how that I don’t have.’
Months into Marie’s course I came to the conclusion that there’s room for everybody, because no two people can do it the same way. B-School made me realize that if it’s your love, you can’t afford to stop. Learn from your mistakes, the greats and most importantly, don’t give up because as Marie says,
‘The world needs that special gift that only you have.’
Are you Ready?
So, if you’re reading this thinking,
‘Hey, I want to be a copywriter too!’
Well, if it’s your calling you can do it! But, like everything else, if you want to make a name for yourself it takes a lot of sweat, hard work and sincere dedication to your vision! That said, if the mere thought of writing your own copy while running the day-to-day tasks of your own business fills you with anxiety and night terrors then do me a favor, close the lid to your computer and give me a call! HAHA!
Good Luck!
